Holiday Greetings, TUSLOG Det. 4, Diogenes Station, 1960.

Jerry Worley, Larry Sons and I. Larry Sons passed away recently. We all three worked at the point and have not seen each other since I visited Jerry in 1964.

Here is a picture that in some ways every one has.  Plenty on the site because this is everyone's favorite Pict.  But I think this is different.  I don't think of it as Sinop from the Hill.  I think of it as a beautiful Sunset.  Could have been taken in lots of places. PICTURE

Here is a picture I wish was better.  Have worked on it and this is the best I can get it.  All you can see is two "silhouettes in the dark." Reminds me of the old 50's song two "silhouettes on the shade."  That is Joe Webber on the right with a Fedora on his head, and me on the left with a basic GIRB hat.  Joe has his hand on the top of something.  That Something is a Five foot high Kite.
PICTURE

This picture is one of my favorite stories, like something out of a MASH episode.
Joe and I built this Kite out of layers of heavy brown paper they used in the mess hall.  Don't remember what we used for the wood.  Something like faring strips.  We used a torn up sheet for the tail.  Heavy twine for the String.
We flew it out over Sinop a couple nights, but had a hard time seeing it a night so one night with heavy wind we tied a GI flashlight to the tail.  The wind was very heavy and the twine broke.  We could see the flashlight for what it seemed like miles.

Like Paul Harvey would say, "This is the rest of the Story."
The next day the "Albies" house boys in the best way they could, mostly hand gestures, told us about a strange light over Sinop.  I guess that was our contribution to UFO's over Sinop.
We thought about making another Kite, but then thought better of it.  If there was some kind of panic in Sinop and they found out who did it we could be in deep do do.
I laugh every time I think about it, maybe you just had to be there.

In 1960 Joe Webber was the unofficial Dean of The Point Site.
When I was there Joe was on his second tour to the Hill and the Point.  When it came to being a 056er Joe was an Artist.  He could do stuff no one else could do.  Joe, to say the least, was a little crazy in my opinion, anyone who volunteered for a second tour to the hill had to off his rocker. However Joe was a fanatic about getting the job done, and done right.
Joe was a great asset to the hill and a great teacher at the Point Site.
Joe was originally from Cleveland Ohio.  I have been unsuccessful in locating him.  If anyone could help find Joe, I would appreciate it.

Anybody recognize this guy?

Two pictures of Spike, everyone's favorite barracks dog when I was on the hill, and from seeing how many times he shows up on other sites he was a favorite all the time he was on the hill. I have seen pictures of Spike in Harry Lance's bed, and playing with other dogs. These pictures were taken in October of 1960. Spike was still there when I left in about May of 1961. Believe these are the best picture I have seen. I titled them Spike on Guard, and Spike the Great.

Point site dogs - Fluff, Roudy, new pup and Glaser

Don't know where this puppy came from but I fell in love with him or she immediately and though it would make a great Point Site Dog.
I have always thought this was one of the best pictures I have ever taken. Maybe it is because we both loved Kellogg's Sugar Smacks.

I took this puppy out to the point site, she or he is in the picture with Rowdy, Fluff and me which I have sent you. I left about a month later, I hope the pup made it. Never gave he or she a name.
