A few weeks ago you responded to my request to change my email address on your Sinop page. I replied that I had been in Turkey in 1997 and 1998 and would send you some pictures that weekend. Well, time really got away from me and I guess at my age the short term memory takes a vacation anytime it wants. At any rate attached are some of the photos we took while in Sinop. My daughter and her roommate from The American Institute in Turkey are in some of the pictures. My daughter spent a year doing research in Turkey as a Fullbright Scholar.

. . . . . . I hope to be returning to Sinop later this year. The director of ARIT (the American Institute in Turkey) is friends with the base commander at Sinop. I had an invitation to stay on the base in 1998; but business took me from Istanbul, to Bursa, Ege, Izmir, Bodrum, Denizli, Selcuk, Efes and finally Ankara.I rented a car in Istanbul and drove. I had forgotten that almost 80% of Turkey is above 3,000 feet above sea level and it was winter. Most of the time I drove through blinding blizzards.
I quickly remembered that Turkey does not have any traffic laws, only suggestions. I had my daughter, her husband (another Archaeologist), and my daughter's Fullbright roommate to navigate. Without them I would probably still be lost somewhere in Turkey.
While it was enjoyable to see the Aegean and Mediterranean, I still like the Black Sea area best. I hope that when I go back to Sinop later this year I can get some pictures of the base as it is today.
