We held our annual 4th of July celebration on the beach which curves to the right in the photo.
This photo is probably taken from the road winding from the town up the backside of the hill past the Mosque etc. There were no civilian buildings this close to the base itself.
A lot of locals used the beach which curves to the left for bathing in the summer. The women wore ankle length bathing costumes.
This is a view of the hill Summer of 58. I'm not sure which buildings are which.
I THINK the white building on the left is the Officer's BOQ and Officer's Club.
The only other buildings at that time (I Think) were the mess hall divided in half for Officers and EM, the Orderly Room and the Ops building. It seems to me there was a wooden barracks type building constructed just as I was leaving (end of 1958).
The British also had an ops site out on "the point" on the Hill. They operated out of a couple 3/4 ton trucks as I remember and lived in the hotel downtown.
Their mission was similar to ours and I can remember exchanging veiled hints on our mutual efforts.
