Two Kids - The ever present Turkish Kids, asking for 'chicklets' (gum) and waiting for the pictures to come out the back of the camera. Some of the pictures I took of Sinop, I owe to these little tour guides. They knew all of the secret places.

Mahier Arson (sp?), A.K.A. ‘Mohair' worked at the NCO Club. He was a very friendly sort, a good bartender, and everyone I knew got along with him just great. I remember him telling me that most Americans did not know his real name, (or could not pronounce it), so he was known as Mohair. I do not recall the other Gentleman's name.

Baa Baa'... Anyone remember the always present sheep, somewhere on the‘Hill'? This one seems to have wandered, and literally stood outside of the barracks one night and baa'ed for nearly an hour. To "shut it up," a kind soul (not me) brought it into the barracks, and all was quiet. It sure made for a couple interesting photos.

Christmas / New Years eve, 1974 was difficult for many. Being thousands of miles from home, family and friends, there seemed little to be joyous about. To help us all celebrate the season, the NCO club decided to put on a New Years Eve party. For some ridiculously low price, you got a dinner of doner kabab, with all the fixings, a bottle of champagne, and an evening of entertainment.
Of course, there was always the standard fare from the club, brought to you by ‘Mohair' and company, the club's friendly bartending staff. The club arranged for an
American Country and Western band from one of the other sites with a very fine lead singer to come as our evenings entertainment. Everyone was having a great time, and soon we were all dancing to the band.
The
electric fiddle was a big hit as well.
Some even felt it was
good to the last drop.
