Artefacts outside the chapel. The brass plate is in Turkish and English. The English reads: "These artefacts of the Christian culture which once flourished in Sinop Province were presented to Diogenes Chapel on 30 August 1965 by Caper Yildirim. They were placed here as a permanent reminder of the friendship between the people of Sinop and the American service men who serve at this post."

Date: Thu, 3 Apr 2008 09:36:19 -0400Hello Bill,
In catching up on some of the ASA newsletters.
I recently learned that COL Darrell Arena passed away a few years ago. Then, this past week my daughter was going through a drawer of some of my old photo and found some more of my Sinop photos.
One shows the base change of command ceremony in 1973 (think it was July, but Im not sure) when COL Arena took over command from LTC Crowell. I thought some who knew the colonel, might like to see this photo of him.
Im also attaching a second photo from the ceremony plus one that was taken during a local outing. It shows MSGT Howard Camp, CAPT Tracy Baird (not sure of the spelling), and I cant remember who the third fellow is. Perhaps he will see it and identify himself. Feel free to add these photos to my page or put them anywhere else on your site that you choose.By the way, I dont use the hotmail address anymore. I have my own domain and use irv@ituckerfamily.org .

Sinop 1973
COL Darrell Arena is the one standing closest to the camera, you only see him from the side.
LTC Crowell is the one you see sort of facing the camera.
MSG Howard Camp is the one holding up the video camera.
Capt. Tracy Baird is the one on the right.
I can't remember the name of the third fellow. Maybe someone will be able to ID him.
